Cooler Temps = hotter bite
As the days of summer start to come to a end, and the high Temps become cooler, most people get upset. However, the true bass fisherman knows this is the best time of year to not only catch big numbers of bass, but to also catch some big bass.
As the water Temps start to get back down towards the 70’s it triggers a switch in these northern bass and they put their feed bags on and It’s a bad time of year to be any type of bait fish.
When fall comes around my favorite place to go after bass is no secret to some people and that place is called AEP recreation land in South East Ohio. This place is a kayak bass fishing anglers paradise. AEP is known to produce the biggest bass the state of Ohio has to offer and most waters are only accessible by Kayak.
The big bass in these 350+ ponds no longer sit around all day and be lazy they get aggressive and move out from the deeper waters and start eating all day long.
My favorite ways of catching these fall bass in AEP are spinner baits , chatterbaits, buzz baits , large soft and hard multi joint swim baits. As the water Temps get cooler and cooler, I will start to add in jerk baits and crank baits that I can work a little slower at times when needed. I will use shad and minnow colors to imitate the bait the bass are going after.
The target waters I fish are mainly the 5ft and less and ambush areas such as points , heavy brush over hangs, large rocks, standing timber and grass beds.
So don’t let the cooler Temps give you the blues, there is still plenty of great fishing left to do and there is no other place in my opinion to do so the, The AEP recreation land.
Get your gear together and make it a fall to remember.
