Recently, We started installing Marine Mat non skid EVA foam on our Hobie Kayaks. Very similar to the popular Seadek and just as good or better quality with a solid EVA foam with adhesive peel and stick backing, making it easy for most individuals to install themselves.
On a recent visit to the Florida I was able to check out Marine Mat at their facility near Tampa, Fl. I was very impressed with the establishment and was given a quick tour of everything they do there.
Danny at Marine Mat gave me the tour from the Digitizing, Product Testing room, storage of all their matting and the CNC machine room. It was a lot to take in for not really knowing much about this product other than it looks awesome on kayaks and provides a great standing, walking, non-skid platform for boats.
We started by checking out the digitizing room where they take all of their templates and trace them with either a lazer or another (for lack of a better term) pen type tool. Its really sweet how you can literally trace any shape you want and put it onto the computer to be cut into the Marine Mat.
The next room Danny took us to was their product testing room where they can test different weather conditions on their product in all sorts of climates without having to leave the facility.
The warehouse portion of Marine Mat is stacked 25′ tall with 3 aisles of numerous colors of sheets of the product waiting to be cut in the CNC machines.
They have 3 CNC machines that were all running, shaping and cutting out various decking while we walked through and watched these robotic machines work at a fast pace.
With over 20 different colors it makes for numerous customizing options its hard to not find a great place for this product almost everywhere I look. I am very excited to try it out on my personal sailboat floor after being spoiled with Marine Mat on my Hobie Pro Angler 14.
